— jessica mao ❄️✨ (@jmaomusic) November 18, 2022 Her disappointment at not seeing her name in the credits was understandable given the significance of her role in the game’s development. On Twitter, Mao detailed her emotions and emphasized on key sections and parts of the story that she worked on. For the Freya chase sequence and the Thor boss fight, she assisted with the editing, arrangement, and execution of the soundtrack. To be honest, Mao wasn’t even close to being the biggest contributor to God of War Ragnarok’s soundtrack. She addresses this in a more recent Tweet where she confirms that she was really an intern in the game’s music production department, and that she spent just two months on the project, from June to August of 2021, out of the four years it took to make the game. Regardless of how huge an impact she had on the game, she insists that the work she did was important and that she should be recognized for it. Strange as it may seem, the explanation presented for why one name cannot be added to the closing credits doesn’t hold much water. Most fans feel that she should get at least some credit for her work at Santa Monica Studio because she apparently worked on several extremely significant musical sequences. It has gotten to the point where some fans are demanding Santa Monica to release a patch that includes Mao in the credits. Even if Mao’s attitude may come out as ungrateful, in the end she is correct since everyone should be given some sort of recognition for their efforts. Whether or when the studio will provide a response to this allegation remains to be seen.
