Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip is due to be announced sometime late this year. Usually before that, there are a spate of announcements from companies competing on the release timeline, with actual units shipping from sometime early next year.  According to a new rumor from the Digital Chat Station on Weibo (via TechDroider), the first batch of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips are going to Motorola. Which implies, they will likely be the first company to announce a phone with the new flagship SoC. Incidentally, Motorola was also the first company to launch a phone with the previous gen flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, as seen on the Motorola Edge X30. Unfortunately, the phone wasn’t released worldwide, and was limited to China.

Chen is usually the first one to confirm such news from Motorola, and even last year he hinted in a post about the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone. 

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Specifications

Qualcomm usually releases details of their upcoming SoCs at the Snapdragon Summit, which is taking place in Hawaii this year on 15-17 November. Although some details about the SoC have already leaked online. According to noted leakster Ice Universe, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is focused on efficiency and has performed very well in initial energy efficiency tests. 

— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) May 24, 2022 According to another leak from DCS, the new chip is going use four kinds of ARM cores, compared to the three used by Qualcomm traditionally. These cores are speculated to comprise of one Cortex-X3 core, two Cortex-A720 cores, two Cortex-A710 cores and three Cortex-A510 cores.
